Stockholm Economy: 26 percent more job openings in Stockholm

Stockholm’s economy continues its positive trend and wages show increased growth in both Stockholm county and the city of Stockholm. The labor market is growing and the number of job openings is increasing markedly while unemployment continues to drop, according to Stockholm Economy's second report for 2014.

Job openings increased by 26 percent in the county and 37 percent in the city compared to the same quarter last year. 63,688 new job openings were reported at the Swedish Public Employment Service, 43,097 of these in the city of Stockholm.

Wages also increased in the second quarter of 2014 by 5.7 percent in Stockholm County and 7.6 in the city, compared to the previous quarter. This is compared to 4.7 percent for the rest of the country.

Private sector wage growth also showed positive development in both the city and the county. The number of start-ups increased, but so did the number of bankruptcy filings compared to the same quarter last year. Approximately 5,000 more companies were registered in Stockholm County, 3,000 of which in the city. Compared to the same quarter in 2013, this is an increase of 3 percent.

“Stockholm’s development continues to go in the right direction. Both the labor market and the economy are strong and the fact that more and more companies are moving to Stockholm is also a good indicator of the city’s attractiveness”, says Olof Zetterberg, CEO of Stockholm Business Region.

During the second quarter of 2014, the county gained almost 10,000 inhabitants, 3,500 in the city.
